THE EDGE

A winter measured by what it asks of you.

Six nights of expeditions, wilderness cabins and routes that go well beyond the marked trails. A journey for those who would rather earn the view than be driven to it.

Arrive and prepare

Briefing and equipment

A private transfer takes you into the wilderness, where the first evening is spent on preparation rather than sightseeing. Equipment is fitted, routes are discussed and your guide walks you through what the coming days will involve. Dinner is early; the journey starts properly tomorrow.

A full day behind the team

Long-distance husky expedition

Not an introduction but a proper expedition. You drive your own team across frozen lakes and through deep forest, covering real distance and stopping only to rest the dogs and eat. The day ends at a wilderness cabin heated by wood, with no road leading to it.

Off the map

Wilderness traverse and cabin night

The route continues away from anything marked. Navigation, snow conditions and daylight shape the day rather than a schedule. Camp is made where the terrain allows, and the evening belongs to the fire, the stove and the sauna if the cabin has one.

Beneath the ice

Ice diving and cold water

One of the more demanding days. Under close supervision you enter the water through a cut in the ice, either diving or swimming depending on your experience. It is brief, controlled and genuinely difficult, and the hour spent recovering in the sauna afterwards is part of the point.

Crossing the Circle

Long-range snowmobile traverse

A long day covering serious ground by snowmobile, crossing frozen lakes and open fell country with fuel and food carried with you. The route is set on the morning itself, based on wind, snow and available light.

The last climb

Fell ascent and Northern Lights

An ascent on snowshoes or touring skis to open ground above the treeline, timed so that you are high up as the light goes. If the sky is clear, the aurora is watched from there rather than from a roadside, with the descent made by headlamp.

Down from the fell

Departure

A slower morning, a long breakfast and a private transfer back. Most guests find the quiet on the drive out is the part that stays with them.
